Dr. Heinrich is a Research Instructor in the department of Orthodontics. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1994 from the University of Zagreb, Croatia. She completed postdoctoral training in area of Developmental Biology at the State University of Connecticut Health Science Center at Farmington. She has been on the faculty of the UTHCSA since 1996. In the department of Orthodontics, Dr Heinrich activities include participation in the research of bone remodeling. Her primary research interest is regulation of genes for bone cells (osteoblast, osteocytes and osteoclast) markers and molecular mechanisms involved in mechanically-induced regulation of bone cell markers; including the type I collagen, osteocalcin, alkaline phosphatase, osteopontin, dentin matrix protein (DMP1), matrix extracellular phosphoglycoprotein (MEPE/OF45) bone morphogenetic proteins and homeobox genes, after stimulation of periodontal bone by application of controlled orthodontic forces. She is also involved in cell culture studies of immortalized bone cell lines from transgenic mice, subject to different components of mechanical stress.
She is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.
