Orthodontic Practice-Based Research Network
The UTHSCSA Orthodontic Practice-Based Research Network invites orthodontists nationwide to collaborate in asking, and answering, questions of immediate clinical relevance.
A practice-based research project begins with a question asked by a group of clinicians in the course of daily practice. The project is designed with the support of university faculty to ensure scientific validity, and then conducted in private practices. The participating orthodontists receive early feedback on the results.
Practice-based research does not replace traditional university-based research, but it can complement such research by providing results that are:
- more representative of the skills and methods of community clinicians
- more representative of the needs and demographics of community patients
The Department of Orthodontics at UTHSCSA has already sponsored successful practice-based orthodontic research in South Texas and is now sponsoring the development of a national network.
